Northern Nevada was definitely “on the map” in the just announced Sacramento NHC First Round competition. We had 6 local brewers, brewing 9 winning entries , qualifying for the National Finals held this year in Grand Rapids, MI.
Congratulations to Jeff Current, Barry Cochran, Jason Green, Jason Hanski, and Jason Hobbs for your expertise and a job well done!
Hey, all you judges, stewards, old, new, or prospective; here’s a message from Darrell Amerine, Coordinator for the California State Fair Homebrewing Competition (p.s., I’m planning on being there):
Good Morning everyone,
The NCBG and the CA State Fair have begun the process of signing up judges and/or stewards to work the week of May 29th – June 1st. We are looking for about 40 judges and 20 stewards per day to judge and score the nearly 750 expected entries this year.
Please use this link to scroll to the bottom of the page and register as a judge. if you know of someone who would be a steward please forward the link to them as well. http://www.northerncalbrewers.com/homebrew-competition
This year promises to be bigger and better than last year. We will have great food, raffle prizes and can assist people who have to travel more than 50 miles with Hotel Accommodations.
If you are available any or all of the dates on the registration page, please signup so we can have a great list of potential judges.
Judges who can make the trip from out of town, please contact me via email so I can make the Hotel accommodation with you.
Darrell Amerine, Coordinator
CA State Fair Homebrew and Commercial Craft Beer Competitions
At this month’s meeting we will discuss some changes at the management level, and WZZ’s commitment to brew for the Hoppy Hour event at this year’s NCHF.
The president and treasurer have decided that the club will pay for a 5-gallon batch of beer ingredients if you will make it for that event. Anything left over will be used in the club booth on Saturday. We will be among several other clubs displaying their/our brewing prowess. I think we are honored by the invitation to participate at this level.
On a related note, we got the NCHF board to agree to a guaranteed ticket for each person who brews a batch of beer for Hoppy Hour; not a free ticket, but a guaranteed ticket (remember the big cluster flap over getting tickets last year?). The catch?…. We get 10 (ten) tickets guaranteed for that job.
These tickets will be for members in good standing (dues paid) by the end of this month’s meeting.
Those not brewing for Hoppy Hour specifically will have to scramble for tickets like everyone else.
Oh, and by the way the April meeting will be 6:00 P.M. at the Reno Homebrewer on Saturday, April 19th. (2335 Dickerson Rd., Reno 329-2537) (map below, just in case you’re new and would like to visit)
BBQ will be available for grilling. (Bring your own meat or veggies.)
By the way, does anyone remember what the theme is for this year’s NCHF?
